HAPPY NEW YEAR YOGI’S Another year has passed and a new one awaits us. This is an exciting time of year where we release all that was out of our control and that which we wish to say good-bye to and we get ready to begin a fresh journey with new ideas, energy and a bright outlook full of possibilities. A wonderful way to bring in the new year is to shed all your unwanted fears, regrets, let-downs and emotional baggage that you may still be holding in your heart and psichy. One way of doing this is by having a fire ceremony. You can write everything down on paper and then create your own spiritual ritual for burning them. You may want to use rice instead and chant Om Namaha Shiviya or the Ganesha Mantra 108 times. Each time you chant, you throw some rice into the fire. The grains of rice represent what you are letting go of. I first experienced a fire ceremony with Shiva Rea and have done many with her. I found it to be a wonderful, healing experience. I think this New Year I am going to write each fear that has sprouted as a result of my pregnancy and burn them individually, while chanting a mantra. Tomorrow my family and I are going to get up early, head to the beach and cleanse ourselves in the healing vibration of the ocean. This is my favorite way to start off the New year. What my clients tell me about classes: This week one of my clients called me in the evening and told me their cousin would be joining us for our morning session. He mentioned that is cousin Jeremy has had arthritis in his hips for a number of years. After my client started doing yoga and got to feel how it began to transform his body and mind, he called Jeremy and suggested he start yoga as well. Jeremy took his advice and began going to regular yoga classes. Jeremy has been doing yoga for just over a year now and it has helped his hips tremendously. However, he has never experienced a private before, so this invitation from my client was going to be a treat. My clients called me specifically to request Restoraflow. He unselfishly decided to give up his prana flow class to allow his cousin to be introduced to a gentle, yet activating class designed to stretch and open up his hips. I taught them one of the hip-opening sun salutations I created and then we went on to do some restorative poses and another hip flow sequence. I think the best part of the session was seeing how quiet and well behaved my client was because he had a guest there. Normally, my client wants to do yoga and five other things at the same time. There are moments where it feels almost impossible to get him to stop talking and remain on his mat. But this day was so peaceful and my client moved gracefully into the sensation of every breath. By watching and adjusting Jeremy, I could tell that even though he attends a yoga class weekly, he was give very little, if any adjustments. I also noticed that he was focused, present but the consistency of the linking of breath with movement was at times a struggle. If I would have had another session alone with him I would of done an hour of pranayama to get him to move further into the sensation of his breath. For the most part he had more flexibility in his hips than I had anticipated but there were definitely poses that he could be doing on more of a regular basis to help to increase more mobility and less tightness in his pelvis. At the end of the session he continued to thank me graciously for the session. He mentioned that he could see why people do privates and them become addicted to them. He said he really enjoyed the hands on adjustments and alignment corrections. He normally practices Vinyasa flow in NY. He mentioned how different the class was that I taught and he called my client during the day to say how good his body felt from after our session onwards. This is not at all to toot my own horn that somenone enjoyed my private class, but to share with you all how I see the Restoraflow practice benefiting my clients. This week I videotaped one of the back opening sun salutations that I created to give you a little taste. I had a friend of mine borrow the photograph sequence of this flow. He does not have any major back problems but was feeling a little tight in his back. He learned the flow and repeated it a few times and commented at how much it made his back feel open. Please feel free to begin teaching this sequence once you have learned it and have it in the memory of your body. Try it on your private clients or even incorporate it into a warm-up for one of your flow classes. Enjoy! May this year be full of Spontaneity, endless dreams being manifested, a whole lot of love and you rising to your highest level. Om shanti, Love Sara. A Special New Year Treat Success! After several weeks of pleading, Sara has filmed a Sun Salutation from Restoraflow. I can tell you from personal experience this particular sequence healing my back nearly a year ago. If you have a client with back issues, you want to do this with your clients. It's a special treat to share this with you!
