So maybe another topic on a low cost marketing secret.
I've been invited to participate in a Health Forum. I can have a display, have handouts, talk to people. I've never done this before. Anyone done this before? What type of handouts? Should I have a raffle? What to put on the display? Any other ideas? Thanks for your input! gaileee

This is a tough one.
Because the one thing you need to do is get peoples' attention. Can you have a DVD playing? Can you have a health challenge? Most people who attend these events come to collect literature and promply forget about it unless... You make a point to follow up with every person who stops at your desk. You must get their attention. And have an incredible offer for them. PM me your phone number and I will give you a shout. Peace. Harlan

Hi Gaileee,
I participated several years ago at a health fair and I would do it again. I had my table nicely covered with a blue silky cloth, had my boom box with me and played soothing music, had flyers, brochures and business cards and a sign up sheet for those who wanted to get an update on upcoming classes. And yes, I had some sweets on the table at a strategic place. If I were to do it again, I probably would do a raffle. I not only got a few (really only a few) students, but - more importantly - I connected with others who displayed their services. For example, I connected with somebody who offered me a nice space to teach yoga and with the director of the local rehab center who invited me to give a presentation. Be open what this event will bring you, spend time in front of your table, and have fun. Warmly, Monika |

Gailee--I would use the advice we've all been given. BENEFITS OF YOGA!! List them in big print on your poster! List them on your hand-outs! Also, include testimonials from your students. A raffle isn't a bad idea either...how about the winner gets one free session with you? Do you have a yoga friend who would be willing to work the booth with you? If so, you can offer on-the-spot assessments of people's bodies and perhaps a 5-min mini session with them. Go on yogadirect.com and order yoga magnets that you can use as hand-outs (but put a small label on the back with your name and phone number or website). Just let your imagination loose and you'll come up with some great ideas!

Hi Y'all!
Great ideas! Someone suggested to me that I have a big glass bowl, and have sugar free (well this is a health fair) candy at the bottom, almost empty - creates energy that people want to get the candy before it runs out. At that same visual area, have a raffle for a VIP Voucher for Free Yoga Classes for the winner. Collect contact information, name, address, phone, email. Then use the contact information, as Harlan suggests, and mail them a coupon for half off or a free class, and with that coupon have the addressee, be able to invite a free or two, to the class....also for free/low cost... I do have a dual portable DVD player, where I could hook up a Yoga DVD, and place at opposites ends of my booth/table area. I think that I need to set up my yoga mat/chair/resist-a-ball, block, straps and such, so ..like you suggested do mini-assessments and demonstrate. Dear daughter is taking photographs at her college in the various poses, and I'll have a mini-album of photos of sequences, and probably post a mini-snap shot of poses to ease back pain. (Idea directly from Sara, by the way!) I have lots of testimonials, but I'm asking my current students to write testimonials so that I can have some current ones. (Hey I'll run a raffle on that too!) More ideas are welcomed!! Gaileee

Gaileee,
This health fair sounds great. My father actually met his current wife at a Health Expo in New York a few years ago. I have never been to one but I that they are a great place to network. I love your enthusiasim in everything that you do. You go Girl!!! Like sue said, Get creative and just have fun. Make sure to have you business cards and possibly a simple yoga flyer of who you are, your services, the type of yoga you teach and a call to action with your contact information. I think the yoga DVD palying is a good idea, especially for peple who have never tried yoga. A definite yes on the yoga demonstration. This is a fantastic way to draw people in and give a 5-10 minute yoga taste. Yes to the raffle. Have people put in their business cards, this way you have their contact information and give away one free private session and one free class where you teach. One more idea.....in order to get people's phone or e-mail, you could give yoga books. I don't know when this is happening but Harlan knows of a great web-site you can get books of all kinds at a huge discount. About $2 a book. Just e-mail him and ask him. I have forgotten what it is. This way people get something free, which we all love and you build a mailing list to market to. You are also eduacation people about yoga by giving away the books.. Let us know what happens and how it goes. Stay in the fire and enjoy the prosperity it brings, warmth and smiles, Sara |
