Private Yoga
Namaste...
First let me say how pleased I am to find you and how grateful to Harlan and Sara for sharing this so needed information.. I was reading some of the forum conversation and it's wonderful to feel connected and supported. I spent 30 years living in New York City, and 10 months ago moved upstate NY to a much smaller community of 30,000.
The economy here revolves around two large colleges which does help. But the economics here is very different from NYC, and this leads me to my question. You strongly suggest moving away from class teaching to private work, which I would love to do. I have heard from a local teacher here, that privates are not very big in this town... and while there is some wealth here mostly gnerated from the academic community, the majority are middle class folk and so I wonder - is there a market for private yoga here? I have an arrangement with a local spa - they pay me well, but the sessions have been few from that source... I am certainly willing to consider offering privates, but I am new here - don't have many students outside of the school yet..I have started my own class in town - yoga for women in midlife... very small class right now.
I have been teaching 3 classes a week at the university here, to get plugged in, make connections.. but the pay is low... I am 52 years old and I really don't want to move around or teach more than 5 classes a week. I also am offering coaching/counseling using a few inquiry processes and hope to generate more income from that.
Any suggestions that address my situation are very welcome..
blessings..
