Hi everyone-
I teach in Las Vegas and using the Craigslist theraputic section just isn't working. I seem to only get guys who want "private yoga and a massage" (if ya know what I mean) but no one really interested in yoga. I've listed the benefits and made sure not to talk about myself - all the things Harlan suggests. I list mainly in the lessons section now and haven't picked up one client from Craiglist. So far my clients that stick are ones looking for yoga on yogafinder. Any ideas anyone? |

Unless it's one of the ads from the paid newsletter, please post your ad
and let's take a look at it. I love doing seminars in Las Vegas but it is the smut capital of the world. But there are normal folks in Vegas. Let's see what we can do to help. Peace. Harlan

Hi there - I can offer only commiseration - i had the same experience with albuquerque and have simply taken my ads down. I'm having better experience with my own website and clickforlessons. you can view my ad in an earlier post. Good fortune and may you be a receiver and source of blessing! Christine

I live in an area that has a large population of young, randy men and many topless bars and so forth. I study the ads in the newspaper, at craigslist, and in the local yellow pages for such things as call girls, 'special' massage services, topless bars, and (let's face it) whore houses to learn what NOT to put in my ads. I could have used a lot more touchy-feely type of words out in California, but have had to be careful here.
Also, I simply think in advance how I will handle those kinds of calls if they come. I still like to remain professional and polite. (You never know who they know or what they will say about you if you send them away with their tail between their legs!) FWIW>... |

The nice thing is these people will identify themselves in their call.
It's really unlikely they will set an appointment if you handle the call professionally and focus on their goals for yoga. Peace.

I want to report that it is the same in San Diego. You can post a great ad and within 30 minutes it is way down the list toppled by ads for "massages" and other "treatments." It is really bad - see for yourself Harlan. I too am feeling discouraged about this, but staying positive. In addition, I have posted on Craigslist under Lessons & under Beauty, but received no responses from those. So now, I am focusing on how I can tap into the market of Downtown Executives and the like. I already teach classes Downtown and see that these men and women working there are very stressed. Helping people with stress reduction is one of my strong points. I have asked concierges at a couple of high rises if I could leave flyer's in the lobby but they have all said no, not surprising. Flyer's on cars???(I am embarrassed to do so, but at this point, I might if you tell me I should!) Any suggestions in tapping into this market? Love you guys! Jai!

Hi,
Whenever we had a new class being offerred at the mega health/county/hospital place that I used to work at (since moved), of all places, it was put on the bathroom stall (inside) door. Get a lot of reading time there......maybe you could do that also.....gail

Humm... interesting idea, thanks for the suggestion. I could only target women though, I don't see myself going in the mens room to post a flyer. Also, I am getting a vision of someone from from management calling me and asking that I do not do this. I like the idea though, thanks. Harlan...Sara...feedback?

I just checked the Craigslist for San Diego. I did not see one ad for yoga that I would consider a workable ad.
I did see a lot of massage services but that's par for the course. You just have to get a good ad and keep posting it. After that, you need to go to your own website and use pay per click advertising.
