Default No One Has Money For Yoga Anymore...Or Do They?

From all across the country, yoga teachers are telling me they are worried their clients won't continue with their yoga.

And at the same time, I'm seeing some yoga teachers totally unaffected by the current financial situation.

So why are some people seeing a difference?

Before I answer the question, I want you to know I have seen this question before.

It comes up year after year.

The media loves to have a crisis.

If there was no news, the newspapers and all news stations would go out of business.

And, unfortunately, it's the negative stuff that attracts people and captures their attention.

Two yoga teachers came to me who live in the same area.

One complained that business was terrible and no one could afford yoga anymore.

The other one said her schedule was full and could not fit in any more clients.

If you know me by now, you know what I'm going to say.

Fix your mindset and you'll fix your economic problems.

Peace.

Harlan, you beat me to it about the economy!

I just raised my rates this month for private sessions and am getting calls out of the blue from people wanting private sessions. They don't even ask about the cost.

I'm holding to this mindset, refusing to let the so-called 'economic crisis' get in my way. Suze Orman says, "When you undervalue what you do, people will undervalue who you are." And I keep in mind Harlan's concept of the A-client. When I am tempted to reduce my fees, I ask myself would I rather have 10 A-clients who pay more, value me more, and allow me to work less, or 20 C-clients who make me work my butt off for a lousy $20? HM!!!

I read the formula Harlan posted in one of the other threads that a yoga teacher should be able to make a real living just seeing four clients a day, five days a week, 50 weeks a year. Man, am I down with that! But the key is that you have to price your services appropriately and don't give in for one penny less. My fees are $50/session, so...

$50 fee x 4 clients a day x 5 days a week x 50 weeks a year = $50k!

Am I making this now? NO. But to me that is a very good goal.

I believe in doing some seva, but isn't it true that when other YT's do stuff for free or dirt cheap on a regular basis, the result is that we ALL become undervalued and underpaid!
