Ever since I've begun my study of yoga, Sara has always asked me
"What's your drishti?" That question really hit home one day when I was going into crow pose. I was looking down at the floor directly below me. Guess what happened... That's right. Down I went. Ouch. I learned where to direct my gaze and was finally able to hold the pose. (We haven't gotten to side crow yet.... ) But that question of drishti is so important, I'll ask it to you in connection with your yoga business. What are the goals for your business? (There are no wrong answers here...) Do you want to be able to just pay your bills? Would you like to be able to open your own studio? Are you the bread winner in your family? Share your drishti with us. |

My goal for now is to fill the 3 classes I have per week, so 30 students per week or 3 classes with 10 students per class. Tuesday nights I avaerage 7 students, Thursday morning is the small class with only 5 & Friday morning is my big class with 8-9 per week.
Thursdays I just can't seem to attrct more people. Any suggestions? Luckyvic |

Dear Luckyvic,
Go for more than 10! Sky's the limit. Instead of just 10, wouldn't 20 or more a class be just fantastic. There is no reason this is not possible unless you are teaching yoga classes on a small farm out in the middle of nowhere. It is great that you are getting consistent numbers of people in your class. A very bright marketing guy who now is my business partner told me about 6 months ago that I must know that what ever it is that I want to achieve is possible. Whether it be more privates, more money or a new home in a few months. Our mind is so powerful and often we are unaware that our own thoughts hold us back or put a cap on what we want in our lives. I think you obviously have goals that you have thought about for your classes, but think higher! A few things to think about and let us know what you have tried. 1) what time is your morning class on thursday. 2)Have you asked or done any kind of survey asking your students what times are best for them. 3)Is this at your own studio or are you getting paid per student? 4)You want the people in your class to be raving about you and your teaching ability. What is it about your classes that people enjoy and what kind of incentive can you offer the students to bring their family and friends to your class? 5)What levels and styles of yoga are you teaching 6)Are you doing any adveritsing? 7)Do you know your target-market. Meaning what is the age and occupation of most of your students? Here's a few things to nibble! Let me know more and we'll start getting more than 10 people to your classes. Have a great weekend.Warmth and peace, Sara |

Wow Sara and Harlan,
I am so grateful that I found this and both of you! My Drishti has been fear, lack, negative thinking..."even though I am an RYT who would want to come to my classes, never mind a private one!" Yes, this is the world I live in, as someone with ADD yoga has saved my life and yet...I AM NOT GOOD ENOUGH!! and yet the students that come are so grateful for my teaching and last week I went to a business lunch and as I described yoga and how stressed woman are thse days, I got such positive feedback about what I do but still.... So much work to be done, awareness is good but change is in the action! So since last night, I came up with a name, I registered my domain and now I am looking to get a website. My goal is to be able to produce 500-1,000 per week as my husbands income meets 50 percent of our basic. barley make ends meet expenses. This amount would allow me to quit my two other jobs. As I write this amount and my fee for my services, I can hear that part of me saying "who do you think you are?" Any and all words of wisdom welcome Regards and be well, Cheryl |

Cheryl, is it doable? Heck yes.
Sara is making a nice 6 figure salary and driving a fancy new BMW convertible after following my suggestions. We look forward to hearing of positive changes in your life as well. Shanti. Harlan

Dear cherab,

The things you say to yourself silently become your realityl. If you feed your mind with positive intentions and have a upbeat view on life and who you are then that is what you will believe. A great book to read that helped shift my perspective is by, Wayne Dyer "The power of intention." go buy and read this book. He is a wonderful writer and has a great outlook on life and how to tap into higher energy and abundance. In regards to your Craigslist ad, search around on our forum. We have lots of feedback on ads people have written and you will find advice on How to write a good ad. Look foward to hearing about all the good things that are coming to you, Peace, Sara ![]() |

Hi Sara,
I will get the book and I apprecitae the recommendation! Staying away form those who say "you cannot make a living teaching yoga, it is a luxury not a neccesity" is the biggest challenge for me. I am learning who to share my dreams with and I am choosing carefully! Thanks again Sara and I will keep you posted! Regards, Cheryl |
