Default It Burns Me Up...

Sometimes it doesn't take much to get me going.

This weekend, I was at a seminar and when the person
sitting next to me told me his niece had been sexually abused
by her yoga teacher.

He then proceeded to name the yoga teacher.

It blew me away.

Now I'm a newbie to this yoga thing - only a year into it but I have a hard time believing the number of reports I hear of this.

What gives with this?

Why are there so many reports of yogis behaving in this fashion?

Sheesh.

Sigh.

Default Yoga stars and yoga groupies

I think I know which yoga teacher you're talking about.

Personally, I think stuff like this happens because this society tends to turn all successful people into *superstars*, including successful yoga teachers. Superstars attract a lot of fawning fans. Most people will start to think they're awesome if other people continuously tell them that they are awesome. They start to think they can do no wrong. And many of their students will be starstruck and not have their boundaries firmly in place.

If you create yoga stars, there will be yoga groupies.

Yoga has become road shows with celebrities. Now quite frankly. I like getting to take classes with people I've heard about and rapidly sample their styles.

But yes people do get to become "stars" of the yoga world with all the hoopla and "entourages".

Shades of Paris Hilton.

From what I've seen the overwhelming majority of yogis and yoginis live by the yamas and niyamas. But a few believe they don't apply to them.

When I was in rabbinical school someone said in today's world, the ten commandments would be renamed the "ten suggestions."

But when you hear about this so many times, one wonders where the movement went wrong.

Peace.
